The 2008 Cable's Leaders in Learning Awards Gala was held on Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 in Washington, DC. The awards ceremony took place at the historic Library of Congress on Capitol Hill. In attendance were cable industry executives, educators, education leaders, Members of Congress and the Administration.

Originally from Kentucky, Nick Clooney’s career has taken him around the country and through a variety of media formats. As a television news anchor, a radio host, a newspaper reporter, and author, he has garnered a reputation for quality and a number of awards and distinctions. He achieved national recognition as a host for American Movie Classics. His most recent book, The Movies That Changed Us: Reflections on the Screen, looks at 20 films that changed America. Nick is also well known for being the brother of the late famed singer, Rosemary Clooney, and father of Producer, Director and Academy Award winning actor George Clooney.
In 2006 Nick and George made an unannounced trip to Darfur and the refugee camps in neighboring Chad to hear first-hand accounts of Darfur’s violence and displacement and to give voice to the millions of innocent victims whose stories are were not being heard. That trip was chronicled in the documentary, “A Journey to Darfur” by AmericanLife TV. Nick currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Nina, where he writes for the Cincinnati Post, gives talks around the country to young people on the situation in Darfur and hosts and produces television shows for the AmericanLife TV Network.
